The other day while sitting on the bus coming home from work I, for some reason, wanted to hear some gypsy jazz aka. “jazz manouche”. Think about jazz with very many notes, played fast, with a touch of swing, and you might be very close to gypsy jazz.
Django Reinhardt was maybe the best known gypsy jazz guitarist of all times – he burnt his left hand paralyzing 2 fingers – but still he mastered his instrument in a way that’s amazed the world since 1930’s when he became popular with gypsy jazz. His group also made the jazz violin player Stephane Grappelli famous.
