Kokosin Spotifyn kotimaisesta kristillisestä musiikista oman soittolistansa nimellä FIN christian ja se löytyy osoitteesta http://open.spotify.com/user/rhkfin/playlist/45HiQeNlQq4G2oGxo2kd9X

Kopioi tuo linkki Spotifyn hakukenttään, paina enter ja tämän jälkeen paina soittolistan nimen alta ‘+ Subscribe’ -nappulaa niin lista lisätään omien listojesi joukkoon. Lista on ‘collaborative playlist’ eli kuka tahansa saa lisäillä sinne kotimaista gospelia sitä mukaa kun niitä Spotifystä löytää.

Tällä hetkellä mukana on mm. Donkey Ride, Exit, G-Powered, HB, Metallimessu, Juha Tapio, Kaemo, Kraka, Lumina Polaris, Mikko Goes to Heaven, NMB, Olli Helenius, Pro Fide, Q-Stone, Edelmanin virret, Loirin virret, Sotahuuto, Tera ja VIP.

Radio Deissä pyörii ‘Gospel-raati’ -niminen ohjelma joka mainostaa itseään näin:

Gospelraadissa arvioidaan uutta hengellistä musiikkia laidasta laitaan. Ohjelmassa vierailee syksyn aikana asiantuntijoita, joiden tehtävänä on antaa joko ruusuja tai risuja ohjelmassa kuultaville lauluille.

Puolella korvalla tänään ohjelmaa kuuntelin. Vieraina Ariel Neulaniemen vetämässä ohjelmassa oli Esa Eloranta ja Pekka Kähkönen. Radio Dei – voisitte muuten tsemppaa ohjelmatiedoissa, jooko..

Artisteina kuultiin mm. Edu Kettusta, Mikko Goes To Heavenia sekä Carita Kalliota.

Yksi ajatus tarttui kuitenkin mieleen: Gospelbiisien sanoittajilla on kova vastuu: onko heidän oppinsa ja teologiansa puhdasta, sellaista mitä voi aidosti allekirjoittaa, vai onko tekstien perustana tunteet, kokemukset jne. Olisiko ‘turvallisempaa’ ottaa vanhoja koeteltuja tekstejä ja käyttää niitä uudelleensovittaen, ehkä nykyaikaistaen, sanomaa kuitenkaan muuttamatta.

Sama toki pätee opetuksiin, opettajan tulee seistä sanojensa takana. Vastuu on kuitenkin myös kuulijalla:

Gypsy jazz, jazz manouche

The other day while sitting on the bus coming home from work I, for some reason, wanted to hear some gypsy jazz aka. “jazz manouche”. Think about jazz with very many notes, played fast, with a touch of swing, and you might be very close to gypsy jazz.

Django Reinhardt was maybe the best known gypsy jazz guitarist of all times – he burnt his left hand paralyzing 2 fingers – but still he mastered his instrument in a way that’s amazed the world since 1930′s when he became popular with gypsy jazz. His group also made the jazz violin player Stephane Grappelli famous.

I ended up creating a small gypsy jazz Spotify playlist: spotify:user:rhkfin:playlist:5CJkkHEs7fp1lsteZd0mnH. Also check my Spotify tips.

My previous review on Spotify wasn’t very nice on Spotify. Now 6 months later I must admit that it’s the only source of music in Internet I use.

Here’re some tips for every new users on both Windows and Linux.

Invitations

Yes, you need one if you want to listen to Spotify and don’t want to pay 10e/month for Spotify Premium (no ads). You can ask some of your friends for one or try at http://invitify.fleo.se/

Installation

Yes, you can run Spotify also on Linux. You’ll need Wine for that. Check installation instructions for Linux.

Spotify URLs

No matter how bad music you listen, you can always share it with your friends! Right click on track -> Copy HTTP Link. Send this link to your friend, just paste it to e-mail, instant message or Facebook.

Now some things that you can do with an URL you receive.

Paste it to http://spotify.url.fi/ to see what song it is.
Paste it to the search field of Spotify client to open the song / playlist.
Open it in directly in your browser and you’ll see an ugly useless web page. It’s possible to hack also your non-windows browser to support opening the song automatically on Spotify. Instructions for Firefox (see the bottom of the page) and Konqueror (in Finnish but you’ll still be able to read the code bits.. :)

Playlists

Create you own playlists by selecting the songs, right click -> Save to.. and select either ‘New playlist’ or an existing playlist.

Share your playlists by right clicking on the playlist name -> copy HTTP Link. And share it with your friends.

You can also make a playlist ‘Collaborative’ by right click -> ‘Collaborative Playlist’. Now everyone who you’ve share the playlist with, can also edit it, and the changes will be seen by everyone who have the list loaded.

Review

Spotify’s still closed (although open source client Despotify is available). As far as I know, it’s not making any profit yet. S60 mobile client (only for premium subscriptions) is a nice idea. The ads, where a guy with a strong Swedish accent reads the text in Finnish are horrible.

Spotify is failing big time on the community aspect: Sharemyplaylists is not enough. I want to be able to add friends on the client, see what they listen and send them recommendations. How about integrated statistics?

And artists are not happy: The most played artist, Lady Gaga earned about 113 euros in 5 months, being the most player artist in Spotify. Spotify badly needs more Premiums users, and artists need badly better deals from the record labels.

However, it’s still the free best source of music in Internet having the widest selection, new releases and everything.

Theremin – the instrument you’ve never heard of

Termenvox, autherphone or nowadays better known as theremin. A weird and fascinating electrical instrument that’s played without touching. Theremin has two antennas that sense the position of players hands and change the frequency and volume of the sound. I got to know it today via a friend of mine playing the Maemo Theremin.

The history of theremin is fascinating and includes the Russian civil war, stock market crash in 1929, Lenin, Siperia and KGB.

We went to our church’s young adults’ camp last weekend and it was great. Awesome people, strong 40cm ice covered with snow on the small lake, hot sauna, cold water in the ice hole, tons of food. We got to feel a little of what the Israelites experienced in the slavery in Egypt and what their Exodus was like. That’s why the song ‘Go down, Moses‘ from around 1860′s was very popular and has been in my head now for some days. That’s why I wanted to share these three very different versions of the great song for you to enjoy!
