In the morning I went to the Science Museum. Great place with awesome things for a physicist to see: Edison’s bulp, first steam locomotives, first analog & mechanical computers, Bragg’s spectrometrum, Foucalt’s pendulum and more. We spent around 3 hours there but nope, we didn’t see it all.
Had a lunch in a suspicious chinese restaurant. Everything else was suspicious but the food was actually great.
The afternoon we spent at All Souls church – watching rugby! As people here have none to very little experience of church and they know very little about the churches, the churches try to attract people to participate in a very easily approachable way, like providing facilities (huge screen, drinks, pies, pudding etc) for people to watch rugby. Of course there were many volunteers from the church helping – and talking to people. Also the highest ranking people in the church were there, talking to people, enjoying the game.
LESSONS LEARNED
- A church should take good care of it’s volunteers as they are a scarce resource and easily overloaded.
- Don’t judge by the looks. We only see the cover, God sees the heart.
- One of the most important things for a leader to do is to make sure there’s someone being prepared to replace him.
