I managed to connect, can see friends when they log in etc., but the moment I try to send a message to any of them, they simply go “offline”, that is vanish from my buddy list in Pidgin and, of course, no message ever managed to go through :(

@Daeng Bo:Looks interesting – but what is it? The site really doesn’t tell it very clearly, some kind of ‘about’ page would be nice.

@Arthur: nice if you got it working in Pidgin!

@Christoph: you don’t need any extra plugin any more in Pidgin. Though I’m not sure if there are any differences how they befave in XMPP or plugin. But glad it works :)

I’m happy with using the pidgin-facebookchat plugin. Since I generally prefer Pidgin to Empathy as well.

I couldn’t get it to set up in Empathy, but Pidgin connects just fine. I kinda prefer Pidgin anyway.

You should take a look at OneSocialWeb, which extends XMPP in a federated social networking model. It’s due to release a reference server/client in a few weeks under an Apache 2 license.
