Internet Explorer 8, the latest version of Microsoft’s award winn.. browser is now being advertised big time.
For example MS Australia announced a competition where you can win $10 000 by finding some stuff hidden somewhere in the Internet. Of course, it only works for IE8 users.
‘Get the facts’ page for IE8 compares IE (41% of Internet users in May 2009) with two other leading browsers, Google Chrome (5.5%) and Mozilla Firefox (47.7%).
You might not be surprised that IE8 wins the comparison in 7 out of 10 cases, the rest three are ties.
- Security: IE8 wins: “Internet Explorer 8 takes the cake with better phishing and malware protection, as well as protection from emerging threats.” Yeah, whatever..
- “Internet Explorer 8 claim privacy victory”
- “..make Internet Explorer 8 easiest to use”
- “Internet Explorer 8 passes more of the World Wide Web Consortium’s CSS 2.1 test cases than any other browser, but Firefox 3 has more support for some evolving standards.” I’m surprised, are you trying to tell me that IE actually supports standards used by someone else, too? I’m having hard time believing this, see ODF vs. OXML
- Developer tools: “Of course Internet Explorer 8 wins this one. There’s no need to install tools separately, and it offers better features like JavaScript profiling.”
- “Internet Explorer 8 is more compatible with more sites on the Internet than any other browser.” – This must be because if people don’t write IE-compliant code IE just wont show it. So everyone need to support non-standard-ie-junk. “IE, you always break our coolest toys“
- Performance: “Knowing the top speed of a car doesn’t tell you how fast you can drive in rush hour. To actually see the difference in page loads between all three browsers, you need slow-motion video. This one’s also a tie.” Yeah right. See Futuremark’s browser benchmark results.
I’d just like to see the numbers and know some backgrounds. This is as informative as the original ‘Get the facts‘ to compare Windows to Linux.
I recommend you just forget about Internet Explorer and Microsoft and instead go and download Firefox 3.5 (beta5 / RC1 currently). It’s libre, free, localized, supported in three operating systems, fast and everything, see below.

Internet Explorer 8 is very good because it is as stable as Opera. I hate the previous versions of IE like IE6 because it hangs frequently. :
Internet Explorer 8 have been my most used browser this year, it is definitely stable and fast loading too. ,
