I was just informed (ubuntu-translators mailing list via Heikki) that KDE4 upstream translations would have not been imported to Rosetta, the translation tool Kubuntu and Ubuntu uses. This means that we would not see all the hard work translators have done for the KDE project to be used in distributions.
To my relief there was later an answer from Arne Goetje (a Canonical employee) in the thread:
The problem you see is with the import script, which marked all KDE4 packages as ‘need review’, because they are new. This means that someone has to review the import queue and manually (!) assign proper domain names to each template to get them approved. Further more there was a communication problem between the Rosetta and Ubuntu teams about the queue management. There is work going on as we speak to batch approve all outstanding templates and upstream translations. We will let you know when it’s done.
So it seems that it’ll be eventually fixed. I really hope that Intrepid will have a nice localized KDE4 and that we have patience to wait this fix and when it’s time, work on the strings and not get too furious about the delay and but actually do something useful to help the process.
And my thanks go to all translators, you are doing a great and important job – especially the cool Finnish translators of Ubuntu and KDE.
Disclaimer: I might not be aware of everything so don’t trust me too much :)
