Easier installation of KDE4 themes – a deb package and a repository?

KDE4 desktop with plasmoids

Does anyone know if there are deb packages available to install a selection of KDE4 themes easily, like any other packages? Or even a repository with all the coolest themes available.

I know that now you can install new Plasma themes or window decorations by going to kde-look.org, finding a theme of your choice, downloading it, extracting it to some specific directory and then loading it with the KDE tools. I think this is not the easy way to do it.. Detailed instructions are available at pramodrt.com – as you see it’s not something you’d recommend a newbie..

I was actually able to change the theme to the Glassified mentioned in the instructions but some changes were required:

  • yes, you need to create the ~/.kde4/share/apps/desktoptheme directory
  • You need also to add the following lines in the ~/.kde4/share/config/plasmarc:

[Theme]
name=Name-of-the-directory-where-your-theme-is-ie-Glassified

Or are there plans to write some kind of theme installer and include it in KDE at some stage?
